A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I spend most of my time caring for my 6 year old daughter, finding creativity in being a mom. I also love antiquing/thrifting, home decor, and gardening.

2. Why do you make art?

Art gives me both a sense of control and freedom. Painting allows me to look at something or someone long enough without feeling weird about it, to study it. It’s a way for me to feel focused and can see my progress and accomplishments.

3. What inspires you?

Seeing other artists doing it - making their art and putting it out there. I can be inspired by an image, an antique find, or I’ll have a creative flash of seeing something ordinary as art. I feel inspiration in nature and from other art forms like music, movies, and theater.

4. What/who are your influences?

My family has always been supportive and kept me going and I’ve had some encouraging, selfless teachers. Some of my favorite artists are Magritte, Schiele, the post-impressionists, Francesco Clemente, William Kentridge. I also love natural science illustration.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Deepak Chopra or the Dalai Lama. Or one of my ancestors.
