A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

Being an artist is my career - although I do have a Master’s of Science in Global Marketing that does assist me in that. I also enjoy hiking, birding, working in my garden, traveling, and of course, spending time with family and friends.

2. Why do you make art?

I’ve been drawing since I was a very small child - it’s one of the first things I ever remember doing. I make art because it’s my second nature to do so - I love recreating and “speaking” the language of beauty around me through paints and pencils and other mediums.

3. What inspires you?

Beauty inspires me. I believe you can handle any subject matter beautifully, even if it’s sad or unpleasant. I admire beauty, because this world has enough ugliness in it.

4. What/who are your influences?

I love painters such as Childe Hassam, Ilya Repin, Edouard Manet, Mary Cassatt and many of the Impressionists. I love expressive realism - paintings that are in essence “realistic” - but do not look like photos - so you see the artists’ expressive intent and style through their paintings.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Vincent Van Gogh. I’d like to tell him how many people love his work, including me.
