A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST
1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).
I worked for the US Postal Service for 27 years (mostly in customer service.) I retired about 8 months ago, so now I have more time for art!
2. Why do you make art?
I make art because I can’t imagine not making art. It makes me happy. It’s always been an integral part of my life.
3. What inspires you?
What inspires me? That could be a long answer. Short answer: Nature ( the forest, the ocean, my garden, sunsets), music, poetry, dance, spirituality; sometimes the work of other artists.
4. What/who are your influences?
It’s hard to pin down specific influences. I feel I’ve been influenced by numerous great artists I’ve studied. I don’t really paint like any of them but I’m sure my work has some elements from each of them. Currently I’m learning watercolor so have many contemporary influences, mostly my instructors. I’m especially drawn to the works of Winslow Homer, Thomas Moran and Georgia O’Keeffe, Margaret Mee, Mary Grierson, and Pierre Joseph Redoute to name just a few.
5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
If I had to narrow it down to one person, perhaps it would be Queen Elizabeth I. I think she is one if the most fascinating, powerful and mysterious women in history. How did she manage to hold her throne for so long? How did she deal with betrayal, fear, loneliness, and the need to be utterly ruthless? What was it really like to be in her very unique position?
