A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST
1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).
When I am not making art, I am nurturing other parts of my life and my relationships. I enjoy live music, dance, being active, hiking, cooking, gardening, and loving my cat.
2. Why do you make art?
I make art because I have a passion for creating beauty. I love nature and I try to capture its beauty through my painting process in order to share it with the world. With my work, I want to bring a sense of peace and love to others, as well as a connection to nature and the spirit within it.
3. What inspires you?
Music, art and nature inspire me. The subject for my work is inspired by nature and all the living beings within it. I love traveling and hiking new places to gain inspiration. The colors and patterns within different landscapes are unique and beautiful.
4. What/who are your influences?
I have been influenced mostly by the art movements during the early 19th century, as well as by contemporary artists. The artists that have influenced my work the most are Franklin Carmichael and Tom Thompson of the Group of Seven. The Group of Seven is a group of Canadian painters who captured nature through their oil paintings in the early 19th century, about the same time that Van Gogh was making similar impressionistic work across the ocean.
5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
I would meet Paul Stamets, a mycologist who studies mushrooms. He is doing a lot of work towards saving the environment and improving the health of society with them. Mushrooms have many immune health benefits. As an artist who paints nature, I am very intrigued with learning about our environment, and how everything works together to create a healthy planet and society.
