(1921-2001) was a French American surrealist painter. She was born in Paris, and was educated in Europe and New York City, attending art school in France. When World War II began, she moved to New York City and worked for Harper’s Bazaar and the Metropolitan Museum of art. She knew Pablo Picasso, and her portrait was painted by Alberto Giacometti. After her children were born, she did not paint for twenty years, and began again in 1970. Her paintings are typically three to four inches in size, and she had many solo shows in New York City late in her career. A book about her work called Skyshades was published in 1990.
