(1922-1996) studied at the Richmond School of Art and moved to New York City in 1942 to study with Hans Hofmann. In 1943 she was the youngest member of the American Abstract Artists group. She has been represented by the Tibor De Nagy gallery in New York City since 1953. She contracted polio on Mykonos Island, Greece, in 1959. She spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair but rehabilitated her hand to keep painting. She lived in New York City until her death in 1996 and was elected a member of the National Academy of Design in 1982.
