1. What other profession is similar to being an artist and why?

Being a boxer is similar to being an artist because even when you're feeling strong you can get knocked down.

2. What’s the nicest thing you can remember someone said about your work, or an individual piece?

Recently an artist wrote me a note on my Instagram page saying "Where or how does one purchase one of these?' It just felt really good that people are reaching out. It's nice that social media is working for artists right now.

3. What’s one thing you’d like everyone to know about you as an artist?

I work very hard on my artwork and that I've thought about giving up in frustration many times in the past. Last summer I read Michelle Obama's book "Becoming" and at one point she writes about a time in her life when she asked herself the question, "Am I good enough?" and then she answered, "Yes, I am." That really resonated with me
4. What was the last piece of art that you saw that blew you away?

Hilma af Klint's show at the Guggenheim blew me away--every artwork was spiritual, colorful, skillful and it filled me up with a lot of inspirations and ideas.

5. What’s something you haven’t done but you want to do in art/painting?

I'd like do a community project and paint a mural on a building of a bird for the Audubon Society.

6. Which artist do you like better - Ingres or Delacroix, and why?*

Since I'm making a lot of drawing right now, I'd have to say Ingres. I think his drawings have a beautiful line quality, and great details especially his portrait drawings.

*The reason we ask about Delacroix and Ingres is because they were contemporaries with wildly different styles!
