Chris LaPorte Drawings

DRAWINGS BY ARTPRIZE GRAND PRIZE WINNER CHRIS LAPORTE, last chance to see them in our space!
The pieces on display span the past fifteen years of LaPorte’s creative output. Visitors will have the chance to see small individual portrait studies for some of his larger well- known drawings, as well as a study for his ArtPrize winning piece “Cavalry, American Officers, 1921.” In addition, the show presents several of his monumental sized drawings, as well as recent work representing a new direction for the artist.

LaPorte, originally from Bay City, received his BFA from Aquinas College and his MFA from the New York Academy of Art. In addition to studying several years in NYC, he also studied at the La Coste Ecole des Beaux Arts in France. He currently teaches drawing at Aquinas, and has also taught at GVSU and Kendall College of Art and Design. He is known for his monumental pencil drawings, which can take a year to complete. He often works from historical photographs, and has drawn over 100,000 people in the past 21 years.

The event Saturday night is free and open to the public. The show is on view through Tuesday, April 25th. AllArtWorks regular business hours are Tues - Sat, 12-7pm.
