A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST
1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).
I am a creative person and utilize the creative process whether I am painting, writing or making videos. Ideas emerge incessantly so i must be selective. I now only bring into fruition those ideas I cannot not do.
2. Why do you make art?
I must do it and always have. It creates balance and fulfillment in my life. Life itself is a creative experience of growth, change and evolution. Creating art gives physical form and expression to the ephemeral. Noumena becomes phenomena. It crystalizes communication. Creating art is its own reward.
3. What inspires you?
Beauty, truth and goodness. Inspiration derives from the wellspring of life itself. Art is a physical expression of unseen inner emotions, thoughts and feelings. My work taps into the psychic energy of the unconscious mind. I have been developing Catharcism for the past 30 years. (catharcism.com)
4. What/who are your influences?
The impressionists, post-impressionists, expressionists, fauvists, abstract expressionists. Matisse, Chagall, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Pollock, Kline, Kandinsky, Klimt, Munch, Vlamick, deKooning, Picasso...too many to mention. Those painters who were so in tune with themselves they created recognizable unique styles.
5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
I assume you mean a painter. Probably Van Gogh as I think I might have been able to save him. Then again, if he was sane he might not have left such a magnificent legacy of work. Or Picasso. To hang with him and create would have been extraordinary. To be one of those artists in the Salon de Refuses in Paris, or one of the Irascible 18 in New York would have been phenomenal.
