A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST
1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).
Director/Curator at Armory Art Center.
2. Why do you make art?
The need to create is intrinsic to who I am. It brings a sense of balance to my life.
3. What inspires you?
Color, shape, texture, trees, water, mountains, architecture, fields, flowers, bees, children - these are some of things that speak to my soul. I want to take what I see and recreate it in painting or drawing, thus making it a part of me. I love using unusual materials and lots of layers to get to a finished result. I love to experiment with new materials and techniques.
4. What/who are your influences?
I'm influenced by my colleagues and mentors. Also, whenever I visit a museum or gallery, I study the art. I am always curious about an artist's processes and what materials were used in a particular piece. I want to touch it, taste it, crawl in and be a part of it for a while. Sometimes just seeing something new and interesting in an art supply store will inspire me to try it just to see what I can do with that particular media.
5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Mary Cassatt, Gerda Lipski, King Louis lVX, Sam Heughan, The Dalai Lama, My great, great grandparents, Jonathan Van Ness.
